Four fair ways to split rent
- Equally: simplest when the rooms are about the same.
- By shares: the biggest room counts as 1.5 or 2 shares, everyone else 1.
- By percentage: when you've agreed a ratio, or you split by income.
- Exact amounts: when each room has its own agreed rent.
Try the numbers in the free split calculator first, then save them in Hisaab Kitaab.
Set it once
Add the rent as a recurring expense with the split you agreed. Hisaab Kitaab records it every month on the right date. Change the split when someone moves rooms, and the next months follow.
One person pays the landlord
Usually one flatmate pays the whole rent. Hisaab Kitaab records that they paid it and what everyone else owes them. Bills, groceries and everything else go into the same account, and it all nets out into one simple settle-up.
Pay back the rent payer
Each flatmate sees what they owe and the rent payer's payment details, with a button for PayPal, Venmo, Revolut, Monzo, Wise or UPI where they've added it. The payment is recorded, then confirmed by the person who received it.
