What's new — start on your own, pay links and a split calculator

The HKO team · October 01, 2026 · 2 min read · #product · #updates

This release is about the first two minutes and the last step: getting a group going, and getting everyone paid back.

Start on your own

New accounts now open with a short welcome: name the shared account (or pick Our flat, Weekend trip…), check the currency, and type the other people's names. They're added as guests straight away, so you can log the first expense before anyone else has signed up. The next screen makes a share link you can send to the group: it shows the balances and recent expenses, without an account, for 30 days.

When someone signs up with the email you invited, they take over their place, with everything recorded for them.

Pay links for the apps people use

Your payment details can now include PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, Revolut, Monzo and Wise as well as bank accounts, IBAN, UPI, Raast, JazzCash and Easypaisa. Type your username or paste your link. Anyone who owes you sees a Pay button that opens the app, with the amount filled in where the app allows it (PayPal in any currency, Venmo in USD, Cash App in USD and GBP, Monzo in GBP, UPI in INR). Reminder emails include the same links.

We still never move money: pay in the app, record the payment, and the other person confirms it.

A free fair-split calculator

Not sure how to split the rent? The new split calculator works it out equally, by income, by percentage or by shares, with no sign-up.

Pages for every kind of group

Flatmates, couples, trips, families, friends, clubs, students: see who HKO is for and how it fits the way your group shares money.

Your language, before you sign in

The public site now has a language menu too: English, Español, اردو and हिन्दी.
